Poster for Roles: A Sexuality and Gender Forum COnference

Mae, an editor on the Roles: a Sexuality and Gender Forum approached me about creating a submissions poster for the forum's 2017 conference. The poster had to draw people in and be eye-catching whilst clearly outlining the submission guidelines.
I focused the poster around a photograph of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera: two prominent figures in the Stonewall uprising of 1969 (a pivotal event in LGBT history). The roses give reference to the popular political slogan 'Bread and Roses'. I chose a collage style, mixing a vintage photograph with modern imagery and fonts in order to link the past and present.
